Individual Therapy Approaches

It can be hard to know what you are looking for out of therapy.  You have the opportunity to choose and experience different approaches based on your needs.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic Therapy is about exploring the origins of different thoughts, behaviors, beliefs, and patterns while looking at the why and how to increase self-awareness and exploration.

Creative and Expressive Based Approaches

Expressive activities used in therapy take many forms and this is not a complete list. Expressive interventions may be anything from art making, writing, collaging, to dance or movement.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) uses different forms of Bilateral Stimulation, or across the body movements, to allow you to keep awareness in both the past and present while looking at significant life experience(s), stressor(s), or trauma(s). Learn more here.

Parts Work

You may be familiar with Parts work or others know this approach as Internal Family Systems Therapy. This approach looks at different aspects of you as a person that come up in daily life and as a result of stress or trauma. Through exploring these different parts of self, learning, and identifying their needs, we are able to reconnect to your natural way of being.

Somatic and Body Based Approaches

Somatic and body centered therapies focus on gaining or regaining a connection of the mind and body. When we are in session, I will often ask body focused questions such as what you are noticing to bring awareness, mindfulness, insight, and a deeper experience of healing.

Cognitive Based Approaches

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) uses the foundations of CBT while focusing on specific skills to learn mindfulness practices, navigate emotions and distress, and enhancing interpersonal connections. In its simplest form, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) addresses the connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Some clients wish to work in this approach exclusively. Although CBT is a great form of therapy, when addressing trauma, integrating other forms of therapy is needed.
